With a total of 16km climbing on the race route the pace was erratic, moving from +50kmph on the flat right down to 23kmph in other sections. During the climb on the second lap Dermot got block off on the narrow road by other cyclists and lost contact with the lead group, however following a high speed chase together with eight others he made contact back with the lead group after 10km of intense chasing. Each lap saw more people exit out the back of the led group on the climb, reducing the 68 strong field on the last lap. Dermot gave a solid performance to cross the finishing line in tenth position.
It has been a good start to the racing season by the club and the racing will continue with planned appearances at the Carrick Wheelers Cup on St Patrick’s Day followed by Ras Luimni starting from Caherconlish on 27 March.
