The handicaps proved to be reasonably accurate with the Cat 2’s catching the Cat 3 and Ladies just 1.5km from the finish line. The Cat 1 riders overhauled those that were not able to keep in touch with the main bunch and eventually ran out of road in their chase to finish just 10 seconds behind the main bunch. Harry Towmey took the sprint at the lead of the race to gain maximum points available on the night, followed by Ken Costello taking second and Mike Looby, showing signs of a comeback, took third place.
Following results from stage one that leaves Dermot Radford in first place in the league with 29 points, Michael Kelly in second place with 27 points and Liam Flanagan and Noel Ryan sharing third place on 25 points.
League positions will be shaken up next week as Stage 3 sees a return to the 10 mile (16.1km) time trial on the same course as Stage 1. Ten points will be awarded to the rider who improves on their Stage 1 time by the biggest margin, followed by nine points for the second best improvement, etc. For those riders that did not take part in the first time trial, they will be awarded points (from a maximum of 10) based on their overall finishing position within their category on the night. Stage 3 sign will take place in Bansha village at 7.15pm on Thursday 28 July with the first rider off at 7.30pm. The time trail will start in Bansha,
