Handicaps proved difficult to overcome with a determined Cat 3 group setting off at a frantic pace. The stronger riders did their share of work with Eva Barrett of Club Rothaíochta Na Sionainna in particular not shirking responsibilities. The majority of the Cat 3s held off the chasers, but the Cat 2s did manage to shut the 6 minute handicap to within a minute. The Cat 1s never got a sniff of the leading groups, but did manage to mop up some of the those that lost contact with their groups.
Kevin Bergin of Tipp Wheelers took the sprint from the flying Paul Lafford of South Tipp Wheelers and the every impressive Jack Looby of Tipp Wheelers rounding out the top three on the night. Overall that puts Kevin Bergin in a clear lead with maximum points from 2 stages, closely followed by Jack Looby and Noel Considine of Galtee Wheelers.
Next week will see a return to the time trial circuit. For those that competed in the first stage, there will be points for the 20 riders who improve their time by the biggest margin from Stage 1. For those that did not compete in Stage 1, points will be awarded in accordance with their finishing position within their own category. Sign on will be in Oola village from 6.45pm to 7.10pm with the first rider off at 7.15pm
We have finish line video of Stage 2 so if anybody has queries on their finishing position please let us know.
