See below for details of riders assigned to each category. Based on Stage 1's time trial, the following handicaps have been calculated:
Category 3 start time: 00.00.00
Category 2 start time: 00.06.11
Category 1 start time: 00.09.41
The method used to calculate handicaps has proven very accurate over the last two years, so hopefully these times will give everybody a fighting chance of scoring points. Points for Stage 2 will be awarded to the first 20 riders across the line, regardless of category. The winner will get 20 points, second place 19 points, third place 18 points, etc. This means that each category must work together to hold off/chase down the other groups. Tactics and cooperation will play a big part in how well each category will fair. Will the stronger riders in each group do bigger turns on the front, will somebody try to go it alone or will negative riding cost them their chances?
Some quick notes that everybody should heed:
When riding in a group, do not overlap your front wheel with the rider in front of you. If you do not understand this concept then please ask somebody before the start of the Stage as this is the biggest cause of crashes in group riding.
We endeavour to make the roads safe for our riders, however the roads are open so each rider must obey the rules of the road at all times.
Never cross the white line in the middle of the road.
Be conscious of the riders around you, call if you see a pothole in the road or indicate to those behind if there is an obstacle on the road or if a group is overtaking a slower rider on the road.
No time trial bikes are permitted to be used on road stages and all road bikes must be in good working order with fully functioning front and rear brakes.
If anybody has any doubts or questions please ask. We have very experienced riders in the club who are willing to pass on their knowledge and experience.
Below is a recap of results from Stage 1, including Category and points allocation and the overall league table at this early point in the league. The points allocation for the next time trial will be based on how much riders improve their times. For example, the rider who improves their time by the biggest margin gets 20 points, the second biggest margin gets 19 points, etc. If a rider did not take part in Stage 1 they will be assigned a category and allocated points based on their category, so it does not matter if you missed the first week. Overall it is the best 3 from 4 time trials and 3 from 4 races that will be taken for the overall final ranking.
We look forward to seeing everybody on Wednesday!
